Pimp the DSP engine Sample-Library

Postby Jörg Schaaf » Tue Mar 13, 2007 9:05 pm

I am preparing currently a commercial Sample-Library for the Sample Engine of the Spectralis. The focus is on multisampled Hybrid Synth sounds in order to make them available for the Sample section. Some sounds are only keyboard multisampled for other sets I am using different velocity layers as well. Here are the two first demos for some of the multisamples I already did. Any suggestions are welcomed. Sound suggestions are welcome. I am still doing the sampling and I am happy to receive some requests for a specific sound.

Demo 1 starts with two multisampled organ sounds, second pattern shows FM sounds together with a multisampled Filterbank Voice FX sound with deep flanging created with the oscillator detune function. The last pattern is completly done with the Sampleengine only. The Wet Bass preset from the Hybrid Synth factory soundset is multisampled with four velocity layers:

A FM sound highpass filtered to get a kind of guitar sound:

Inspired by a track from Pete Namlook - a fairlight voices demo:

Only the fairlight voices are from the Sampling Library. I decided to sample also some sounds created with other machines than the Spectralis Hybrid Engine;-)

Some buddies requested a piano sound. I am sorry for not presenting another Beethoven Etude here - I am not a piano player:

All following mp3 are made with the DSP engine only - so the Hybrid synth engine is not in use at all. The sample startpoint modulation is in use at all Pad sounds in order to give them more liveness:

The wellknown Vangelis Brass sound plus a new beefy Pad-sound:

A good example, how good the digital filter section can sound with rhich multisamples. All three sounds in this demo are made with the same multisample to show, how flexible the samples can be used with the synthesis engine. Do you ever heard a VA synth opening the filters as wide as the Spectralis does??

The next demo plays a new synthbass. This multisample contains 44 samples in four velocity layers to bring the sound of the analog filter into the DSP section. I added another guitar sound based on one of the FM sounds I sampled. The Pad sound is one of the normal factory presets:

Super...till now I only used the included Sample-Library. New Sounds are very welcome :)

First Demo:
I like the FM Sounds of the second pattern and the bass in the first pattern...very nice!

Second Demo:
Wow...sounds great! Normally I don't use sounds, which sound like instruments like flutes, guitars or organs...but I like this guitar-like sound :)

I use the DSP-Synth often for basslines...so I hope there will be a few samples with deep, warm-sounding basses like from the SE-1x. Ok...perhaps I'm dreaming a bit too much ;)
Or rough bass- and lead-sounds from the Roland SH-101.

I could also need more realistic sounding strings and warm-sounding pads with a deep bottom-end.

Both demos are impressive, especially number 2. Nice one.

I would be interested in some Jupiter / Moog / Se1x / Jomox / Prophet samples - all the synths we cant afford!!!

Very nice, good job Joerg,
well i am not such a big sample-user, and i guess that the memory is not layed out for a the vienna-lib..., but a good piano, some strings and a choir could be usefull.
Guitar is a good idea, maybe a Contrabass...
Why not an accoustic drumset? This would be nice.
My special wish are some percussion sounds, like congas, tablas, claves etc...

there will be for sure more things which could enhance spectralis

Do you already found the percussion samples, which are already in there? There are no sounds made from this samples so far but you find them in the waveform selection. There are plenty of congas, Udus, Ilya etc.

Nice tangerine!

So, this is to be a commercial soundset release.

Any idea of when and how much?

Simon.

Hi Sofine,

I have not finally decided the price - it depends a little bit on how much sample material I will get finished until the release and how I like the complete set. But I think I will need at least another 4 weeks. Beside more multisamples it also will contain a lot of Hybrid drum and FX sounds. But I decided to make multisamples first because they need much more time. I also will add sounds for all these samples. Most of them can be used in a lot of different ways.

I agree here with the other members - strings, choirs, pianos and all other nice sources for ambientlike sounds would be nice to have; i use cowbells atm for lush piano hehe lol so please Jörg some special sustained Fernwald Kuhglocken would be nice too

The JX Strings from the factory set are very nice for speric things, please more of these sounds :D

I never expected, that someone would ask for a piano sound. That incorporates some difficulties as I have to sample all the stuff by myself to avoid any copyright problems. I have no piano here for doing so. The set I am currently working on is mostly based on the sound of the Hybrid-Synth. I have some other synths here - but so far, the sonic results are better when doing the sounds on the Spectralis and sampling them afterwards. If I start sampling my Minimoog, it is much harder to get results, that sound the same over the entire keyboard range. The signal/noise ratio is better at the Spectralis as well. That makes it much easier to loop the sounds. I already thought about sampling some patches of my D-50 to bring some complete different colors into thze samples. But mainly I am focussed on sounds created by the Spectralis itself to make them polyphonic.
But I will at least do some electronic piano stuff. We will see how close I get them.
