Spectralis import 005 - not working in Windows 10?

Postby acemonvw » Sun Jan 29, 2017 6:30 am

I'm unable to load any soundfont into the Spectralis Sound Converter in Windows 10. It just says to drop audio files or sound banks onto dialog, but does nothing more. I can see the '+' symbol, like it should open the files, but nothing happens.

I tried setting it to compatibility mode, but to no avail.

I am not experiencing this with single files nor soundfont files.

Perhaps downloading a new copy might work for you?

I just downloaded a copy - it's the only version I have.

When I'm at my computer tonight, I'll use a soundfont someone said worked for them and see if I can get it to work. They said it did work in their copy on Windows 10 - So I'll see how that goes.

Do you maybe tried a compressed soundfont file?

Well, I used the same program on my Windows 7 PC and the same .sf2 files opened and exported just fine there. So I don't think there's any issue with the soundfonts.

However, that version of the Spectralis import is older. I don't know when I installed that one, but before 2013. I assume it's the same file.

I went back to my Windows 10 PC and the files would not load. It seems like it's a Windows 10 issue (or an issue with the latest download for the spectralis program on the website), since I know those soundfonts load in my Win7 PC...

Thanks for the help :)

Has anyone else actually used the spectralis program and are using Windows 10?

Was the software tested for compatibility in Windows 10 - and if not, is there any plans to get it functional under that OS?

For what it's worth, I'm running Windows 10 Home (64 bit) and SPImport seems to work here. I took some WAV files, used sfzed.exe to convert them to SFZ files, then used Polyphone to convert from SFZ to SF2 then took the SF2 and dragged it into the SFImport, edit categories and was able to export single instruments and instrument collections.

BTW - this process was tedious for drum sounds (just tried it on my DMX samples) but once I got into the flow, it was fine. Definitely something to do on a rainy day or when you're not feeling musically creative.

Note that when i was first playing around with all these tools, I was able to crash SFImport by dragging 'illegal' files into it. I thought I had created an SF2, but it was an export and not a SaveAs from Polyphone and SFImport wasn't happy with it.
