Unfortunatly not. Until now, I always updated my firmware with a serial programmer. But in the future, updates should run over USB. We wrote a Java application that runs on MAC and windows systems as an firmware updater via USB. The protocoll is MIDI based and uses the USB MIDI class driver. That worked also fine for a while already but when I checked that again with the much larger release firmware I run into some problems.
Another drawback is the fact that the Java platform on current MAC OSX systems does not support sysex data. So the firmware application did only work on MACs with this Java extension. That is not as good as it should be. We don't want our customers to install additional libraries on their system. We prefer a solution that works fine with the normal installation of a MAC OSX system. For that reason we decided to transfer the firmware as polyphonic afterpressure data. That worked fine on the MAC but did not work correctly with the windows MIDI USB Class driver. Meanwhile the application works on both systems and uses only channel aftertouch and controller data to transfer the firmware packets.
That also means that we had to change the bootloader startup code of the Accelerator _ that is the part of the firmware that runs the internal firmware flasher - a very small code packet that will never deleted by the normal firmware update procedure. This bootloader is essential in cases, when someone fails with an update because of a current problem or whatever. The bootloader is the persistent part of the firmware that always remains untouched. But the new bootloader has to translate the controller data back into the sysex strings that are necessary for the firmware.
Meanwhile all this stuff is running fine already but we decided to test it again and again until monday and transfer the boards on monday to the assembling company. They are already prepared and have done the rest of the assembling. That means that if no other problem occurs, shipping will start next week.

Any idea where the Accelerator will be available (Thomann?, Music Store?) and how many will be available in the first batch (if this isn't an indiscrete question)?

Thanks,
Peter.

use google, write "radikal technologies accelerator" , search and then go to SHOPPING

i think it will need some more time to finish the whole integration with the system to the hardware and updatesources (mac/win pc) ..

but how long again jörg?

We start delivering next week. From the first run only 30 are reserved for germany and Thoman has not ordered any ACCs so far. I visited the assembling facility yesterday and the first units have been finished. The Firmware of the first units is a stable version 1.5 - we added so many additional features (programmable Arpeggiators, Masterkeyboard functionality with zones for external keyboards and expanders, bank change translation, velocity splits and keyboard splits, Song chain fast patch recall feature ) which were not planned in the beginning that we thought, 1.0 is understatement.

Just as an example - the accelerator has 300 performances that hold the sound data of up to 8 parts and up to 12 keyboard zones for the internal sound engine and external instruments. But for simple split programs you will not even need a performance memory. In the song chain section, you can specify up to 10 splits for each of the 100 songs by simply recalling single sounds from the Accelerator or external gear without using a performance. That means in other words - if splits are your main interest, you can specify 1000 programs with splits without using the performance memory. The performance memory is then fine for more complex patches.

The Java updater works fine now via USB on MACs and PCs.

Also the User knob assignments are working fine. Collect any parameter from any part and assign it to a knob. Not only the 8 knobs can be used - also the 3 knobs under the display work as user assignable direct access knobs.
Ready to use sets are available as well - for example a Mixing desk, where you can control the volumes of all parts. That's a nice performance feature for mutlimode patterns.

OOO, I just saw on novamusik.com's website that the ACC is shipping in June! It's one of the top things on their website so hopefully it will be well received. I should sell all of my synths and get it...
