I like the randomize pattern functtion -- very useful.

I wish the randomize sound function would default to randomize sound for the currently selected instrument, rather than having select the instrument (again) and then select sound type before starting randomizing.

I like the option to be able to select by category. The randomize sound function went from 1 button press to 4, and I think 2 (randomize - sound) with the option of 3 (different instrument) or 4 (category within an instrument) would be a better workflow.

Check the following:

Each Part has a knob. Rotate the knob of the desired part (for example knob one for kick) and select the category for the randomize function.

Then push the num button 1 for a new random sound.

You can choose a category for every part just by using the knobs and you can randomize just by pushing the num button.

The part you are pushing gets automaticly the focus.

All that is not described in the manual so far. But it makes randomize sound much easier.

Additionally you can select the algorithm for the randomize function for each part independently. You can always select between parameter and sample and all randomize for the selected part and the Spectralis memorizes the setting for all parts.

Last but not least - all the settings get memorized even after turning the unit off.

Next time you simply push the buttons you want to randomize.

While I appreciate your clear explanation, I have already figured out how it currently works.

When I hit "randomize", respond to the prompt, "[pattern] [sound]" with "sound", I want to be able to just hit "next" (soft button 2) from there to randomize the currently selected sound. I've already specified that I want to randomize the sound. I'm already in the sound where I want to randomize. Why should Spec require further specificity than that? Arbeitsflußoptimierung. Having to re-specify which part to randomize is putting further modality on the numeric part/sequence/quicksound buttons that are already overloaded with modality.

From there, then I could twist display encoder 3 to specify a subcategory of sound, or select a different part, for which I'd probably want a different subcategory of sound. Having the feature default to "sound" for a given part is not a major change in the functionality, it just increases the mechanical life of the buttons and encoders.

Other than that point, the current functionality makes perfect sense, and I am enjoying access to this feature. Thanks for the update.

It works here on my machine exactly this way. All other options I described above are bonus;-)

Are you sure? Not here. After I select "sound" from the [sound] [pattern] prompt, I get "S01 PA02 Ddyn2 Cat:-- Rand:Both", and have to hit the analog synth button (or whichever) to get to the randomize function.

Hmm - If I have selected "the part select" mode and have the desired part selected, I jump from [SOUND] directly into the random sound function of the part. Anyway - for me it makes absolutly no difference whether I push the [NEXT] Encoder button or the part select button of the desired part as this button triggers the next function as well. In our solution every part has it's own [NEXT] button (the num buttons). The part selection can also be made from this menu without triggering the [NEXT] function. Simply use the encoder buttons for selection of parts.

a bug ?

- if my spectralis is now in Play mode and if i press record the quantisation is set to 24 and i can only modify that if i press the stop buton, press record and change it. tunring the encoder while playing has no effect.

- Sequencerline targets. If i select Dsynth 1 my Spectralis is a bit confused it shows in the target now DSYNTH3 and also synth 3 is selected but i choosed as target dsynth1 .. and dsynth one is the only dsynth target i can choose no D2 or D3 in the target selection menue.

- The randomize buttun is a bit non working. If i press the SOUND encoder nothing happens. But if i press one the 16 direct buttons ( Asynth Dsynth drums ect.) the sound gets randomized. After that the SOUND button in the random menue does work normal if i push it the selected part gehts randomized.
